There is a big flea market every last weekend of the month, not nearly ten minutes driving from my home. The last time I visited, I bought two typewriters. Today I just went to take a look.
The first thing I noticed was a sewing machine. I’m not a collector or a sewer myself, but seeing this item made me understand a bit better. Luckily, it still didn’t win me over. ;-)
The first typewriter I spotted was this Olivetti Lettera 35. Current owner wanted to sell it for ten euro’s. He bought it during the eighties, but told me that it was never used.
This Erika was also bought during the eighties. Current owner bought it for school work. After graduating he didn’t really need it anymore and then… computers came into his home. This was also for sale for ten euro’s.
I know this case used to carry a typewriter. I just can’t remember which one… It was empty though, so I couldn’t get a sneak peak.
And… this did amaze me. In between a cluttered table full of random flea market crap, I found three little boxes. Two of them contained silk typewriter ribbon, still sealed! The third also contained typewriter ribbon (DIN2103), but without the seal. Since I really wanted to buy something from the flea market, I asked for how much it was for sale. Still don’t believe it; fifty euro cents! Funny thing is, I don’t even know on which machine I could use these, but bought them anyway in case I ever need it.
