My reading goals and first readathon for 2020

4 Comments on My reading goals and first readathon for 2020

For 2018 I have set my first reading goal: to read 42 books. I ended up reading 52. Awesome! So for 2019 I set another goal, slightly higher at 55. I ended up reading 68! Even more awesome.

For 2020 I am setting my reading goal at 70 books, but I will also be adding another challenge. And from that came another. This upcoming year, I will be doing my first readathon! It is called #StartOnYourShelfathon, you can read all about it >>here at the Quiet Pond<< but I’ll give you a small recaps and the “rules” I made up for myself.

What is #StartOnYourShelfathon?
#StartOnYourShelfathon is a 2020 star-themed readathon hosted and run by CW from The Quiet Pond. The aim of #StartOnYourShelfathon is to read as many unread books on your bookshelf as you can between December 13th 2019 and December 31st 2020.

This is fun ofcourse, and even without buying more than 5 books in 2019 I still have a LOOOOOOT of unread books. Because this is my first readathon and I don’t want to restrict myself too much on the books I will be reading next year I decided that at least half should be books I already own. This includes ebooks. MANY EBOOKS!

Help Castor the star collector find the stars
The mascot of #StartOnYourShelfathon is Castor the Star Collector, who has lost all the stars he has collected over the years and needs your help to find them again.

For every book that you read as part of #StartOnYourShelfathon, you collect a star that you can add the star to your ‘star map’. Read books, collect stars and create constellations!

My color-coded stars
I created some pages in my journal and a list on Goodreads with 35 book titles of books I either physically own or have as ebooks AND want to read in 2020. Some are from series I want to finish, some are just books that have been lurking at me for a while. And some are from authors I like and want to read more from. All along two pages I have drawn up 65 stars, in different sizes. For every book I will read I get to color a star.

Purple for physical books, blue for ebooks and… silver for books I own as ebooks but instead borrowed physically from the library. Yes, because, THAT is my third challenge. To read as little ebooks as possible and instead of buying new books get them from the library. All the other books I will read will be colored yellow for books I already own and green for new/others. And books I did not finish will become pink (because I don’t like red).

My #StartOnYourShelfathon TBR
